Lewis-Clark State College senior infielder Alfonso Casillas has received honorable mention honors to the NAIA Baseball All-America Team as selected by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association All-America Selection Committee.
Casillas, who played both first and third base, appeared in 48 of the Warriors’ 56 games and was second on the team with a batting average of .361. The native of Indio, Calif., led the team in runs batted in (64) was tied for the team lead in home runs (10) and doubles (20), was first in slugging percentage (.467), third in hits (69), and also held one of the best fielding percentages (.980) of the team’s infielders.
Nationally, Casillas ranked No. 2 in runs batted in per game (1.3), No. 7 in doubles per game (0.4), No. 16 in total runs batted in, and No. 18 in both total bases per game (2.4) and total doubles.
Oklahoma City University’s Miguel Beltran was named the 2012 NAIA Player of the Year. The senior first baseman started all 60 games for Oklahoma City this season, pacing the squad and the NAIA in home runs (27), total bases (181) and slugging percentage (.826). Beltran also led the Stars with 76 runs batted in.
In total, 32 student-athletes were named to the first and second All-America teams, while 35 players received honorable mentions.
