Warrior baseball program holds annual Scout Day
9/20/2012

LEWISTON, Idaho -- Well over a dozen Major League baseball scouts from around the country were at Harris Field on Thursday to watch the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team scrimmage for the program’s annual Scout Day.

The day allows professional scouts to watch Warrior players in action and talk with the coaching staff about the players. It also allows scouts to make notes on the players and mark who their organization should keep an eye on during the spring collegiate season.

LCSC has had 121 players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft since 1975 and also has had 14 players see action in the Major Leagues. Brendan Ryan, the starting shortstop of the Seattle Mariners, is currently the only Warrior in the big leagues.

Five Warriors are currently in AAA including former big-leaguer Carlos Fisher (Cincinnati Reds), Emerson Frostad (Houston Astros), Sean Halton (Milwaukee Brewers), Blaine Hardy (Kansas City Royals), and Beau Mills (Cleveland Indians).

Although any college program can hold a Scout Day, the scouts only visit major programs in the fall to get an early peek at new players and see how some of the underclassmen from a year ago have developed.

LCSC is one of the dominant baseball teams in the NAIA and has won an unprecedented 16 national titles.
