The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team will play 31 home games at Lewiston’s Harris Field in 2013, as the Warriors endeavor to bring home its 17th NAIA championship.
LCSC’s schedule, announced Wednesday by first-year head coach Jeremiah Robbins, is a highly competitive slate that features a trio of home tournaments.
The Warriors will also be heading to the Sunshine State this spring, with a week’s worth of action at perennial NAIA powerhouse Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla. Lewis-Clark State will play the host squad four times during the week, March 18-23, with contests against St. Thomas and Webber International mixed in.
The season begins with a three-day tournament in Lewiston on Feb. 8-10 that will include NAIA foes British Columbia, College of Idaho and Concordia (Ore). The following weekend will feature another three-day tournament, this time against College of Idaho, Concordia and Central Washington. The weekend's action will be sponsored by Guardian Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning.
The Warriors will then welcome Western Oregon to town for a four-game series on Feb. 22-24. Robbins coached Western Oregon for seven seasons prior to his move to LCSC last summer.
After a midweek doubleheader at St. Martin’s in Lacey, Wash., the Warriors ship out to Salem, Ore. for a pair of doubleheaders against Corban University in the team’s first West Region road action.
Menlo College comes to Lewiston on March 8-10, followed by a weekend matchup with Oregon Tech on March 15-16.
After the team returns from Florida, it will head to College of Idaho for four games on March 29-31. The Coyotes will be looking to avenge last year’s loss to the Warriors during the NAIA World Series which eliminated them from tournament play.
Following a trip to Concordia in Portland, Ore. for four games on April 5-7, LCSC will return to the friendly confines of Harris Field for four games against Simpson (Calif.) University from April 12-13, after which they’ll head back out to battle Western Oregon for the second time.
The Warriors will close the West Region slate with four games against British Columbia on April 26-28 before finishing the regular season with an NCAA Division III tournament at Harris Field on May 4-5 sponsored by Inland Cellular, with Pacific Lutheran, Linfield and Whitworth scheduled to appear.
Last year, LCSC went 42-14 overall with a first-place record of 25-6 in West Region play.
The team will then have a few weeks off before the NAIA World Series which will be held May 24-31 at Harris Field. The 2013 Series will stand as the 22nd time the event has been held in Lewiston in the tournament’s 57-year history.
