Cody Lavalli and Carsen Nylund of the No. 8 Lewis-Clark State College baseball team were named the NAIA West’s Red Lion Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, league officials announced on Monday.
Lavalli, a junior outfielder from Apple Valley, Calif., and Nylund, a junior right-hander from Surrey, B.C., helped the Warriors to a four-game sweep of NAIA West foe Menlo College at Harris Field over the weekend.
Lavalli went 8-for-17 (.471) in the four games against the Oaks, with two home runs and three doubles. His three-run blast on Sunday helped the Warriors blow open an 11-7 victory, and he also homered in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Nylund threw eight scoreless innings in the nightcap on Saturday to propel LCSC to a 2-0 win over Menlo. He used just 90 pitches in the two-hit, eight-strikeout effort, and only walked one batter.
Lavalli and Nylund were selected out of nominations from all NAIA West schools including College of Idaho, Concordia, British Columbia, Corban, Menlo, Oregon Tech and Simpson.
The Warriors (16-5, 6-2 NAIA West) will take on Oregon Tech in back-to-back doubleheaders this Friday and Saturday at Harris Field. Saturday is Dollar Day and will feature $1 admission, hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks.
