For the second straight week and third time this season, a Lewis-Clark State College hurler was named the NAIA West Red Lion Pitcher of the Week. Junior Steve Thompson was tabbed with the honor on Monday, as announced by league officials.
Thompson, a 6-foot-3 right-hander from San Jose, Calif., was dominant in LCSC’s 11-7 win on the road over the College of Idaho on Saturday. He threw seven shutout innings, allowed just three hits, struck out nine, and walked none.
The victory moved Thompson to 2-3 in 12 appearances (four starts) this year and dropped his ERA to 1.31, trailing only Garrett Wilson’s 0.87 mark for the team lead.
The Warriors, ranked No. 7 in last week’s NAIA poll, took three out of four games against the Yotes and are now 27-8 overall and 13-3 in league play. They hold a one-game lead over British Columbia (18-10, 12-4) in the NAIA West standings.
LCSC’s Anthony Armanino was named the Pitcher of the Week last week and Carsen Nylund was selected on March 11.
