Men’s and Women’s Season Outlook

Now
in his 2nd season as the Warriors head coach, Coach Thompson is
looking forward to another successful season for both the men’s and women’s
teams.
In his first season,
he directed the men’s team to first place in the Frontier Conference and was
named Men’s Golf Frontier Conference Coach of the Year. The women’s team
finished second in the Frontier Conference and received an at-large berth in the
NAIA National Tournament, finishing in 14th place.
Under Coach Thompson’s watch, two men’s players, Brad
Fuller and Luke Baker, were named to the men’s All-Frontier Conference First
Team and two women’s players, Caroline Bradley and Laura Jefferson, were named
to the First and Second Teams respectively. Current sophomore and 2002 NAIA
All-American, Ilka Loubser, finished tied for 15th at the NAIA
National Tournament last season and was as a 2003 NAIA Women’s Golf
All-Tournament Team selection.
A recent retirement from his position as the Vice
President of Pepsi Cola (Lewiston,
Idaho) has given Coach Thompson the opportunity to pursue collegiate coaching.
With 38 years of experience in the business
world, he has a strong background in
fund raising and managing,
“My initial goal was to bring stability to the golf program and to be competitive in the Frontier Conference. Our goal now is not only to be competitive in our conference, but on the national level as well. Our men’s and women’s team are confident that we can compete on that level and we are working hard toward that goal,” said Thompson.
The warrior men’s team is currently ranked #6 in the latest golf stat poll and the Warrior women’s team is ranked #39. The Warrior golf teams will play 3 tournaments in the spring before the NAIA National Tournament in May.
Coach Thompson makes his home in Clarkston, Washington and has been married to his Judy for 40 years. They have four children Polly (39), Tami (36), Todd (34), and Scott (33).
