LCSC’S TWO DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT COMES TO A CLOSE
Sophomore sensation Ilka Loubser tops all in women’s play

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Warrior Invitational wrapped up Tuesday afternoon, and nine men’s and women’s teams from the Northwest competed head to head in the tournament. Teams from the Frontier Conference participated, in addition to Albertson’s College, University of Victoria, and Miles community college. The invitational, held at Lewiston’s Bryden Canyon Golf Course, consisted of three rounds, which began early Monday morning.
LCSC’s Ilka Loubser topped all women’s individual scores with a three round total of 234. Ilka, a sophomore from Pretoria, South Africa, was ranked #8 in the latest individual NAIA national ranking. Back on March 22-23, she also won an intercollegiate competition held in Blaine, WA at the Semiahoo Resort, pushing her tournament win total on the year to four.
As a team, the Warrior women ended tournament play in third place, behind the University of Victoria and Frontier Conference leader Rocky Mountain College. With the Warrior’s strong third place finish, they closed the gap in Conference play with Westminster College, where both teams are battling for the second place standing. The latest team ranking had LCSC rated at #28. The women would need to finish in the top 25 to better there chance of getting into the national tournament.
In Men’s play, University of Victoria’s Todd Halpen won the individual competition, shooting a three round total of 204. Senior Derek Williams, who scored a first round 69 and second round 70 on his way to a three round total of 213, led the LCSC Warrior men.
As a team, the Warrior’s balanced play of Jeff Smith, Marc Vedder, Eric Titus, Derek Williams, and Jon Warren led to an overall second place finish behind the University of Victoria.
