HELENA, Mont. -- The Lewis-Clark State men are in first place and the women are second in the Carroll College Invitational, a Frontier Conference tournament that began Monday at Green Meadows Country Club.
The Warriors will wrap up the tourney today with an 18-hole round.
Playing in cold, rainy weather, the Warrior men shot rounds of 289 and 293 for a 582 total to finish the day three strokes ahead of the University of Victoria and 24 strokes in front of their nearest conference opponent, Rocky Mountain College.
Jeff Smith paced L-C with scores of 71 and 74 for the day, with Shawn Krahling one stroke behind with rounds of 77 and 69. Jon Warren, playing as an individual, shot 74-72.
Lewis-Clark State's women went 340 and 327 for a total of 667, trailing Rocky Mountain by 38. Katie Fuqua led the Warriors with 84-82.
L-C coach Paul Thompson said he was pleased with both teams' performances, particularly against the highly-ranked Rocky Mountain squads. Thompson also noted Victoria competed in last year's national tournament.
