LCSC men's golf team
closes in on title

LAKE CITY, Utah -- The Lewis-Clark State College men's
golf team put together two solid rounds to take the lead
in the final regular-season Frontier Conference
tournament and all but wrap up the overall title.
The
Warriors posted scores of 289 on the opening 18 holes
and then a 298 on the second 18 during Monday's 36-hole
portion of the tournament, which is being played at Wing
Point Golf Course. The final 18 holes are on Tuesday.
The
Warriors' 587 total fives them a three-shot lead over
Rocky Mountain, which fired consecutive rounds of 295
for a 590 score. Montana Tech is a distant third at 615.
Each
team in the conference plays host to a 54-hole
tournament and the team scores are added for each
tournament to determine an overall winner. Entering this
tournament, LCSC had a 17-shot lead over Montana Tech,
while Rocky Mountain was more than 40 shots behind.
With
Monday's totals, LCSC now holds a 45-shot lead over
Montana Tech for the conference title with just 18 holes
remaining.
Joey
Lovell shot a 1-under-par 71 and followed it with a 73
to stand at even par for LCSC at 144. Nik Arrenbrecht is
close behind at 145.
On
the women's side, Rocky Mountain, with rounds of 312 and
325, holds a small lead over LCSC. Rocky had a 637
total, while LCSC, after consecutive rounds of 321, is
second at 642. LCSC will need to make up 29 shots today
in the final 18 holes to overtake RMC for the conference
title.
Cortney Shrout was the Warriors' top score on Monday
with rounds of 76 and 82 for a 158 total. Juanita Villa
had an 82 and a 79 for a 161.
