10-9-07

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Lewis-Clark State College junior Juanita Villa fired an 80 Tuesday over the final 18 holes to finish fourth overall in the Western Washington Invitational at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

Villa had a 36-hole total of 156, which put her nine shots behind the medalists and four shots out of second place.

Villa tied for low round for the Warriors with Sue James, who also had an 80 on Tuesday. Samara Kluever added an 82, while Courtney Shrout had an 87. The Warriors again were forced to play without a fifth player as both Alana Norris and substitute Niki Fisher were ill and couldn’t play.

The Warriors, the lone NAIA school in the seven-team tournament, finished sixth overall. The other six teams, all NCAA Division II schools, were led by Western Washington at 626, while St. Martin’s finished second at 634.

Team scores – 1, Western Washington 312-626. 2, St. Martin’s 309-634. 3, California State-Monterey Bay 321-646. 4, Hawaii Hilo 316-648. 5, Grand Canyon 324-650. 6, Lewis-Clark State 329-662. 7, Chico State 323-663.

LCSC scores – Juanita Villa 80-156, Sue James 80-167, Samara Kluever 82-168, Cortney Shrout 87-171.
