Oct. 13-14 (Sequim,
Washington)
After
our solid showing in our
first three conference
tournaments, we headed
to Sequim, Washington.
We participated in the
University of Victoria’s
Vike’s Shootout.
Although this was not a
conference tournament we
still wanted a good
showing. We went out on
Monday to play against
some of the top teams in
the country. The
weather in the morning
round was pleasant,
chilly at first but then
it warmed up to be a
nice day. The team
struggled during the
morning round firing a
five over par 293, and
putting us in sixth
place. The afternoon
round was much
different. The rain,
wind, and cold
temperatures came out in
that afternoon round,
making scoring even more
difficult. The weather
showed in the scoring
for the round as we shot
a 298 putting us in
fifth position, well
back of the leading UBC.
Going into the final
round our goal was just
to put up a good number
and hopefully move up
several places in the
field. The pin
positions on that final
day were tucked and very
difficult. Again
scoring was difficult
and the team struggled.
We ended up with a
season worst 300 in the
final round, putting us
in 6th place
out of 9 NAIA teams. We
would have liked a
better finish in our
final fall tournament,
but even so we are in
good position for the
conference, and on pace
to make it to nationals,
our best fall position
in the last three
years.

This week we headed to
the west side to Sequim,
Washington. Heading
west we were preparing
for lots of rain and we
ended up getting a
little in the second
round. As we arrived in
Sequim we had lots of
time to relax and
prepare for the practice
round. On Sunday
morning we headed to the
course to see what was
in store for us. We
found a very nice golf
course that looked
pretty complex. As we
came to the third hole
we even found a bunker
shaped like a crab with
some special sand in it
(it was more like
gravel). There were
ample amounts of sand on
this course be it didn’t
seem to be too difficult
and for once the greens
seemed that they might
work in our favor. As
we headed back to the
hotel to get some rest
we had a meeting and as
a team decided we just
wanted to go out and
have fun. As the first
day approached we
started strong taking a
one shot lead in the
tournament and keeping
that through a
blustering, rainy second
round. We were excited
to be in the lead
against these teams
because were more
competition than that of
our usual conference. We
headed back to the hotel
to dry off and prepare
for the third round. We
came out in the third
round strong and then it
seemed that at the same
time we all lost it. We
had a bad day as a team
and we ended up tying
for third. We were very
disappointed but felt it
was ok considering the
first day of play. As
we prepared to fly from
Seattle to Spokane, we
noticed that our coaches
had missed the flight
and we were now to wait
an hour in the Spokane
airport for them. It
was some excitement to
end what we felt was a
pretty successful trip.
The girl’s team will be
working hard to become
better in the off season
so when we pick it back
up in February we will
be ready to go. We await
the Clarkston
Invitational in March
but we are mostly
excited to host our
conference tournament at
Lewiston Country Club in
April.
