LCSC golf teams put together strong opening-day rounds
BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Lewis-Clark State College men's golf team fired consecutive rounds of 7-under par 277 for a 554 total after the opening 36 holes on Sunday at Yegan Golf Course in the third Frontier Conference golf tournament of the fall.
Montana State-Billings, an NCAA Division II school, also is taking part in the tournament nad has a 551 team total, three shots ahead of LCSC. Montana Tech is third at 555, while Rocky Mountain, the tournament host, is fourth at 560.
LCSC's Nik Arrenbrecht, a senior from South Africa, fired consecutive rounds of 67 for a 134 total and the overall lead. Teammate Chris Kneen, a sophomore, is at 138.
LCSC coach Paul Thompson said he thought LCSC would do well because in Saturday's practice round, the LCSC players shot 63, 66, 68, 68, 70 and 71 on the par-71 course.
On the women's side, Rocky Mountain shot ropunds of 309 and 298 for a 607 total and an eight-shot lead over LCSC, which also played well. The Warriors had rounds of 310 and 305.
LCSC freshman Madeline Jarrett fired two rounds of 75 and is at 150, two shots off the individual lead. Teammate Cortney Shrout is at 153.
The final 18 holes will be played on Monday. This is the final fall conference tournament with three more in the spring, including one in Lewiston.
