SEQUIM, Wash. - Cortney Shrout, Juanita Villa and Madeline Jarrett all shot first-round scores of 76 to help the Lewis-Clark State College women's golf team take the first-day lead at the Vikes Invitational on Monday at the Dungeness Golf Course.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, LCSC stands fifth in a tough field of 13 teams.
The Warriors lead the five-team women's tournament, which is being played host to by the University of Victoria, with a 36-hole total of 642. Victoria is second at 643, while Concordia of Oregon is at 648, and Rocky Mountain is at 649.
LCSC shot a tournament-best 312 during the opening 18 holes, which was played in calm weather conditions, but then had a 330 in the wind and rain during the second 18 on Monday.
The final 18 holes of the two-day 54-hole event will be held on Tuesday.
Shrout fired a second-round of 81 to lead LCSC with a 157 total. Villa is at 159, while Jarrett is at 160.
On the men's side, several NAIA-ranked teams are participating in the event. The University of British Columbia holds a commanding lead at 558, followed by Wayland Baptist at 570, Victoria at 572, and Southern Nazarene at 577. LCSC is next at 592.
The Warriors shot rounds of 293 and 299 and lead fellow Frontier Conference competitors Rocky Mountain (594) and Montana Tech (598).
Chris Kneen bucked the trend and actually shot better in the second round with a 69 for a 1-under-par 143 total to lead the Warriors. Connor McCracken is at 145.
