Victoria sweeps titles at L-C Invite; Warrior men finish second and women third
The University of Victoria women’s golf team rallied from four shots down on the opening day to get past Concordia and help the Vikes sweep both the men’s and women’s titles in the 36-hole Lewis-Clark State College Invitational, which wrapped up play Tuesday at the Clarkston Golf & Country Club.
The Victoria women, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, carded a team score of 334 during Tuesday’s round to finish the tournament with a 660 score. Concordia, ranked No. 14, was second at 667, and host LCSC, ranked No. 15, was third at 683. Rocky Mountain, ranked No. 12 in the poll, was fourth at 695.
On the men’s side, Victoria, which is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, captured the title with a 574, while LCSC, ranked No. 24, was second at 588 and Concordia third at 592.
Victoria’s Mitchell Evanecz and Concordia’s Marc Arima both carded 7-under-par 137s to tie for low individual honors. Arima shot a 5-under 67 for Tuesday’s top round of the day.
Connor McCracken shot a 2-under 70 for an even par 144 total to pace LCSC, while Patrick Casabonne was at 147.
Top honors on the women’s side went to Victoria’s Anne Balser, who carded a 36-hole total of 158. LCSC’s Cortney Shrout was one of three to tie for second at 163, while teammate Madeline Jarrett had a 168.
Each team in the tournament consisted of five golfers, but only the top four scores each day are added for the team score.
This was the first tournament of the spring for LCSC, which will next play host to its portion of the Frontier Conference regular season tournaments on April 13-14 at the Lewiston Country Club.
