LCSC women grab first day lead at Westminster
4/20/2009
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Lewis-Clark State College women's golf teams took the first day lead on Monday at the fifth Frontier Conference Tournament of the season, this one being held at Wingpointe Golf Course.

The Warrior women had 18-hole rounds of 330 and 326 for a 556 team score, which puts them nine shots ahead of Rocky Mountain College, which stands second at 665 after rounds of 341 and 324.

The conference holds six tournaments during the year - three in the spring and three in the fall - and the team scores are added from each tournament to determine the overall winner. Monday's action was big for the Warriors as they were able to cut Rocky's overall lead down to 15 strokes in what is a two-team race for the title.

Cortney Shrout and Madeline Jarrett led the Warriors with 162 totals on Monday. Shrout had a 84 in the opening round and followed it with a 78, while Jarrett went 78 and then 84. Rocky Mountain's Jen Orchard is the current overall lead at 160 after rounds of 86 and 74.

On the men's side, LCSC stands second behind Rocky Mountain by five strokes. RMC fired rounds of 291 and 289 for a 580 total, while LCSC had a 290 and a 295 for a 585. Montana Tech is third at 605.

Although they stand second in this tourney, the Warriors are in control of the men's overall race. They lead RMC now by 53 shots, while Montana Tech has fallen off the pace and trails LCSC by 80 strokes.

Rocky's Kevin Oden holds the overall lead at 142 after rounds of 73 and 69. Ben House leads LCSC at 145 after rounds of 74 and 71. Scott Mooney is second at 146 after shooting 72 and 74.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played on Tuesday.

The final 54-hole conference tournament will be held next Monday and Tuesday in Great Falls.
