KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Lewis-Clark State College women’s golf team received the last at-large berth and will be among the 28 teams that will take part in the 15th annual NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships, which run May 12-15 at Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D.
LCSC, which moved from being ranked No. 18 to No. 16 in the final NAIA Golf Coaches poll released on Friday, was the lowest ranked team to earn an at-large berth for the second year in a row.
Despite losing the Frontier Conference title and automatic bid to the national tournament by 17 strokes to Rocky Mountain, the Warriors finished the season ranked two spots higher the 18th-ranked Bears. More importantly, however, LCSC earned 286 points in the poll to finish seven points higher than No. 17 South Carolina-Beaufort which did not receive an at-large berth.
Last season the Warriors were ranked 19th in the final poll and placed 19th overall at the national tournament.
This year will make the sixth straight season that the Warriors have competed at nationals.
The national tournament will feature seven at-large and 21 automatic qualifiers and will consist of four championship rounds and one practice round.
Teams will compete on the links at Meadowbrook Golf Course, an 18-hole facility, located at the foot of the Black Hills of Western South Dakota. The 7,100 yard course features large undulating greens protected by multiple water hazards and more than 60 bunkers.
