PULLMAN, Wash. - The Lewis-Clark State College men's golf team found the new Palouse Ridge Golf Course unforgiving on Tuesday as the Warriors shot their worst round of the 54-hole Palouse Collegiate Tournament and finished 12th overall.
LCSC, competing with 10 NCAA schools and one community college, fired a 318 team score over the final 18 holes to finish with a 942 overall. Washington State, the host of the tournament, rallied to claim the title with an 873, while San Jose State was second at 877.
"It's a tough golf course and they had some tough pin placements today," LCSC coach Paul Thompson said. "It's by far the longest course we play. It measured 7,300 yards. For example, there was a 261-yard par-3 that has high grass all around it and traps. There was a 621-yard par-5. In comparison, the next course we play on (at the Carroll Invitational) will measure 6,700 yards."
Junior Connor McCracken, the defending Frontier Conference Player of the Year, shot a 4-over-par 76 on Tuesday to lead LCSC. He finished at 229 overall, which placed him tied for 45th.
The rest of the LCSC golfers all shot in the 80s on Tuesday, which led to LCSC shooting a higher team score than it did in Monday's first two rounds.
The Warriors return to action next week for the 54-hole Carroll Invitational, which will kick off Frontier Conference play.
