HELENA, Mont. – Lewis-Clark State College golfers Connor McCracken and Cortney Shrout picked up where they left off from a year ago to lead the Warrior golf teams to second-place standings after the first round of the Carroll Invitational on Monday.
McCracken, the Frontier Conference’s Male Golfer of the Year last season, shot a 1-under-par 70 on the Green Meadow Country Club course to tie for top individual honors in the first round with Rocky Mountain’s Marcus Sergerstrom.
Shrout, who won the conference’s Female Golfer of the Year honor last year, also tied for top honors with a first-round of 77. Erica Schlomer of Rocky Mountain also shot a 77.
The Warrior teams both stand second in the opening conference match of the season. The Warrior men trail Rocky Mountain by five shots with a 302 total, while RMC is at 297. Non-Frontier Conference member Montana State-Billings leads the tournament at 292.
On the women’s side, Rocky had a 320, while LCSC is at 328. The Warriors took extra players for the tournament whose scores don’t count for the team. Tony Azzara had a 71 and Brad Tracy shot a 76 for the Warrior men, which would have been LC’s No. 2 and 3 scorers, while Sue James had a 79, the second-best score among the Warrior women.
Another 18 holes were scheduled for Monday
