Women's golf team is ranked No. 24 in preseason poll
12/4/2009

The Lewis-Clark State College women’s golf team is ranked No. 24 in the preseason NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ NAIA Top 25 poll for the 2009-10 season, while the Warrior men drew votes in the men’s poll, the NAIA released on Friday.

The Warrior women, who have qualified for five straight NAIA national tournaments, wound up 12th overall last year at nationals, but lost four seniors from that squad. LCSC was ranked No. 16 in the final poll last year.

Both the LCSC women and men stand in second place in the Frontier Conference standings this season behind Rocky Mountain. The Frontier Conference is the only conference that has started play and uses a fall-spring schedule because golf courses aren’t open in Montana during the winter-early spring months because of weather.

Rocky Mountain is ranked No. 17 in the women’s preseason poll with 208 points. LCSC had 108 points, which left them tied for No. 24 and one point out of No. 23.

The LCSC men received 30 points in its poll to wind up in a two-day tie at No. 33. Rocky Mountain is ranked ninth in the poll.

The Warrior men are the defending Frontier Conference champions and have won the title eight times in the past 11 years.

Oklahoma City was the top vote-getter in both polls. The polls were voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The first regular season ratings will be announced on Feb. 26.
