The Warriors shot an opening-round team score of 289, which is 5-over-par. LCSC, ranked No. 26 in the final NAIA poll, trails only second-ranked Oklahoma Christian, which finished its opening round with a 3-under-par 281.
It's the best first round at nationals in the history of the LCSC men's program.
Most teams were able to complete the first round, but lightening and high winds stopped play for a couple of hours in the afternoon. The weather later suspended the first round until early Wednesday morning. However, more bad weather is expected to hit the area on Wednesday, which means players may have to play 36 holes on Friday.
LCSC senior Connor McCracken of Eagle, Idaho, posted an even-par 71 on the TPC at Deer Run course. He had seven birdies on the day, but also had a triple bogey, a double bogey and two bogeys. His total left him tied for eighth for individual honors
Jason Molner, a junior from Longview, Wash., had a 72, while junior Tyler Johnson of Hayden, Idaho, and freshman Drew Reinland of College Park, Wash., had 73s. Junior Kyler Gable of Hayden had a 77. Molner is tied for 14th overall, while Johnson and Reinland are tied for 21st.
Although the Warriors are currently second, 10 teams are within eight shots. Top-ranked Oklahoma City is one of the teams as it finished with a 297. The University of British Columbia currently is third at 7 over, but the team still has nine holes left to play. Lee University is fourth at 292, while Malone Unviversity is at 293.
