LC men stand 3rd; women are 4th at NIC tourney
HAYDEN LAKE, Idaho - The Lewis-Clark State College men's golf team got off to a rough start and stands third, while the women's team is in fourth place, after the opening round of the North Idaho College Invitatonal played Sunday at Avondale Golf Course.
The Warrior men shot a team score of 303 to trail both Rocky Mountain (295) and Community Colleges of Spokane (299) after the opening 18 holes. The final 18 holes will be played on Monday.
"The men had some serious trouble early in the tournament but managed to fight back," LCSC coach Paul Thompson said. "For example, Connor (McCracken) hit two balls out on the first four holes but managed to shoot a 73."
McCracken, a senior from Eagle, overcame the four penalty strokes with his 3-over-par round to lead the Warriors. Teammate Tyler Johnson fired a 74, while Drew Reinland and Jason Molner both had 78s. Kyler Gable added a 79.
On the women's side, Rocky Mountain has a one-shot lead over Westminster at 331-332, while Whitman is third at 339 and LCSC is fourth at 348.
Freshman Brooke Dagner paced the Warriors with an 83, while Idaho Whisenant and Shanna Herman each had 88s.
A total of 10 men and eight women's teams are taking part in the tournament, which is the final one this fall for the Warriors.
