The Lewis-Clark State College men’s golf team stands No. 14 in the NAIA Golf Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, while the women’s team is at No. 20, the NAIA announced on Friday.
The Warrior men are coming off their best finish ever at the NAIA Golf Championships when they placed fifth last season. The Warriors drew 248 points in the poll, which is voted upon by a panel of coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups in the NAIA.
Because the Frontier Conference plays a fall-spring schedule while most other conferences play only in the spring, the Warriors have won one of the two conference tournaments thus far. The conference holds three regular season 54-hole tournaments during the year and the team scores are combined together to determine an overall champion. LCSC is currently in third place in the standings, 12 shots behind Rocky Mountain and nine shots behind Carroll, heading into the final tournament, which will be held in the spring in Lewiston.
On the women’s side, LCSC is 20th with 131 points, while fellow conference member Westminster is at No. 13. LCSC is currently second in the standings, trailing Westminster by 38 strokes after the two conference tournaments.
The first regular season poll will be released March 16.
