CLARKSTON, Wash. – The Lewis-Clark State College women’s golf team rallied to win a three-team event at the Quail Ridge Golf Course on Saturday.
The Warriors shot a 311, Whitman College came in at 315, and Whitworth University, which had only four players participating, finished at 341.
“Whitman was very competitive,” said LCSC head coach Paul Thompson. “We were down seven late in the day, but our last two players came in with a 74 and an 82 and that made the difference.”
Idah Whisenant (pictured above), a junior from Lewiston, was responsible for shooting the team-best 74. Her total fell one stroke short of Whitworth’s Emily Guthrie for the best round of the day.
“Whisenant did well despite two triple bogies,” said Thompson. “That’s some pretty good shooting.”
Brooke Dagner shot the second best round for the Warriors as she came in at 77. Heather Bruce had a 78, and Kelsey Haycock an 82.
Kelly Sweeney and Catelyn Webber each shot 75 to lead Whitman.
The Warriors open Frontier Conference play on Monday and Tuesday next week at a tournament in Butte, Mont.
