Warrior golf teams stand second in Great Falls
10/1/2012

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Both Lewis-Clark State College golf teams stand two strokes out of first place after a windy opening day at the Frontier Conference Tournament on Monday.

Through 36 holes, the Warrior men stand at 606 (303-303), while Westminster College leads the way at 604 (313-291). The Warrior women are at 657 (330-327), just off the pace of Rocky Mountain College which finished the day at 655 (329-326).

“Not good and not bad,” said LCSC head coach Paul Thompson about the performance of his teams. “We’re just not shooting the numbers that we have so far up to this point. But the course is quite a bit harder and the wind sure didn’t help.”

Westminster’s Dane Jensen shot the best two-round total of the day on the men’s side with a 146 (76-70). Jason Molner led LCSC’s efforts with a 150 (73-77), while Bret Hogg came in at 151 (73-78), and Rylee Iacolucci finished at 152 (79-73).

“It’s going to take a complete round for all five guys tomorrow,” Thompson said. “We just haven’t been able to do that yet. We have enough depth. We just need to put it altogether tomorrow.”

On the women’s side, Rocky Mountain’s Margo Salsbery led with a 157 (80-77). Warriors Heather Bruce (83-80) and Karina Davila (80-83) aren’t too far back though at 163 each. Brooke Dagner was third for LCSC with a 165 (85-80).

The teams will play the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
