The Lewis-Clark State College women’s golf team is ranked 17th in the nation in the 2013 NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Preseason Poll, released Friday by the national office.
The men’s squad received votes in their preseason poll, ranking 27th overall.
The Warrior women finished first in three of its four events during the fall season, including in one of the two Frontier Conference tournaments contested.
The trio of Heather Bruce, Idah Whisenant and Brooke Dagner has been lethal for the Warriors atop the lineup this fall.
Bruce is second in the Frontier Conference with a per-round average of 79.5 in league events, and Whisenant (seventh) and Dagner (ninth) are both in the top 10.
The men also had a very successful fall and like the women, enter the spring season atop the Frontier Conference standings.
Senior Jason Molner is second in the league with a per-round average of 73.2 in conference events, and freshman Rylee Iacolucci has sparkled in his first collegiate season, shooting 74.5 in his six Frontier rounds.
The LCSC women received 216 total points in the preseason poll, which was led by defending national champion British Columbia.
The Thunderbirds received 10 of a possible 15 first-place votes in the poll. SCAD Savannah, last year’s NAIA runner-up, received the other five first-place votes and 422 points overall.
On the men’s side, Texas Wesleyan topped the preseason rankings and returns three NAIA All-Americans from last year’s sixth-place national squad.
The Rams earned 494 points in the voting and 13 of 18 first-place votes. Defending national champion Oklahoma City got four first-place votes and 479 points for second place.
The Warriors earned 82 points in the poll.
Both Lewis-Clark State teams begin the spring season at The Desert Classic in Las Vegas on March 3-4. The first regular season coaches’ poll of the spring will be released on March 15.
