The Lewis-Clark State College women’s tennis team started a key weekend of play by dumping the University of Alberta 8-1 at the LCSC Tennis Center on Friday.
The Warriors 6-8 on the season, swept all six singles matches in straight sets and then won two of three doubles matches.
All four women’s tennis teams in Region I are participating in three days of round-robin play. Joining LCSC and Alberta are College of Idaho and Southern Oregon. The four teams are unaffiliated and are combined together to form a regional unaffiliated group in the NAIA. According to the NAIA National Tournament qualifying plans, the champion of that unaffiliated group will received an automatic berth to the tournament as long as that team is ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll. Currently, LCSC is the only one of the three teams ranked as they are No. 19 on the season.
The Warriors resume action on Sunday when they play host to Southern Oregon at 9:30 a.m., and the College of Idaho at 1:30 p.m.
The LCSC men jump into action on Saturday when they host the University of Alberta at noon and College of Idaho at 8 p.m. Southern Oregon does not have a men’s program.
