The Lewis-Clark State College men’s tennis team again showed it is the team to beat among NAIA Region I schools with convincing wins over the University of Alberta and College of Idaho over the weekend.
The Warriors, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, dumped Alberta 8-1 on Saturday and then steamrolled College of Idaho 9-0 on Sunday, both at the LCSC Tennis Center.
The three teams compose the only men’s tennis teams in Region I and they are considered to be playing in an unaffiliated group in the NAIA. According to the NAIA National Tournament qualifying plans, the champion of that unaffiliated group will received an automatic berth to the tournament as long as that team is ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll. LCSC is the only ranked team of the three and the two victories solidified the team’s standing in the group.
Against Alberta, the Warriors only lost one singles match in three sets. LCSC won the remainder of the singles matches in straight sets with only two going more than seven games. LCSC then rolled in doubles play as well.
Against College of Idaho, LCSC only lost six of 78 games play in singles play and followed it up with two shutouts and an 8-3 win in doubles action to blow past the Coyotes.
