SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Lewis-Clark State College tennis teams ran up against a formidable foe in Point Loma Nazarene University on Monday. The Warrior men, ranked No. 23 in the NAIA, were defeated by the No. 11 Sea Lions 6-3, while the women, ranked No. 17, faced the third-ranked Point Loma women and fell 9-0.
The Warrior men took two of the three doubles matches, but could only steal one win at singles. Ivan Krijanto and Benjamin Robert partnered to take the No. 1 doubles match 8-4, and Cesar Uauy and Oliver Singayigaya won the No. 2 match 8-6. Victor Garcia, player at No. 6, was the only Warrior to win a singles match as he bested his opponent 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
Elaine Lee, playing at No. 5, came the closing to winning a singles match for the Warrior women. Lee forced her match to three sets, but ended up falling 11-9 in the tie-breaker. All of the other matches were won in straight sets.
The LCSC men fall to 7-10 on the season, while the women drop to 2-6.
Both Warrior squads will now travel to Palm Springs, Calif., to face Westmont College Tuesday. The matches will begin at 12:45 p.m.
