PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Lewis-Clark State College women’s tennis team, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA, took down 14th-ranked Westmont 6-3 on Tuesday. The No. 23-ranked LCSC men fell to the eighth-ranked Westmont men 7-2.
Lewis-Clark State claimed four singles and two doubles matches on the women’s side. Katharina Marsela (photo) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Megan Smedley won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4, Elaine Lee won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Barbara Sneckner won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Marsela and Samantha Teigen won the No. 2 doubles match 8-5, while Chelsea Gay and Ciara Schultz took the No. 3 contest 8-2.
On the men’s side, only Victor Barcina was able to come away with a victory for the Warriors. Playing at No. 6, Barcina won his match 7-6, 6-4. Ivan Krijanto and Benjamin Robert won LCSC’s only other match as they won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
The win lifts the LCSC women to 3-6 overall, while the men fall to 7-11.
As their tour of ranked teams in California continues, the Warriors will now travel to face Azusa Pacific on Thursday and then Vanguard on Friday.
