Both Lewis-Clark State College tennis teams have qualified for the NAIA national tennis championships, according to a press release by the NAIA sent out on Saturday.
The LCSC men and women each earned bids based on where they were ranked in the NAIA Tennis Coaches' final Top 25 polls of the season.
The women’s team, which finished the season ranked No. 16, will be making its 11th consecutive appearance at the national championship. This will be the women’s 17th appearance at the championship since 1989. Last year, the women topped Indiana Wesleyan 8-1 in the first round, but fell to Auburn Montgomery, which was then ranked No. 1, in the second round.
For the Warrior men’s team, which was ranked No. 18, this will also be its 11th straight appearance at the tournament and 20th since 1989. The men fell to Berry College 6-3 in the first round last season.
Both championships, which include 24 men’s teams and 24 women’s teams, will be held May 18-22 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala., and hosted by Spring Hill College and the University of Mobile. Tournament brackets for both events will be released on Tuesday.
