Seasons end for LCSC tennis squads
5/19/2010

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lewis-Clark State men’s and women’s tennis teams ran into season-ending roadblocks at the NAIA national tennis championships on Wednesday. The Warrior women were ousted from the tournament by No. 2-seed Fresno Pacific 5-0, and the men were stopped by second-seeded Auburn Montgomery 5-0.

The women’s team, which was making its 17th appearance at nationals, went 1-1 at the tournament to end the season with an overall record of 7-13, while the men’s team went 1-1 during its 20th appearance to finish the year at 10-16.

Although they were unable to win a set, the Warrior women did win multiple games against Fresno Pacific including three at No. 1 doubles. Katharina Marsela and Ciara Schultz came the closest to winning a point for the Warriors as they lost 8-3 at No. 1. The Warriors lost 8-2, and 8-1 in the two other doubles matchups. At singles, Fresno Pacific quickly won at No. 3 and No. 5 and so the remaining matches went unfinished.

On the men’s side, LCSC’s Oliver Sindayigaya and Tyler Oram nearly pulled out a win at No. 3 doubles against Auburn Montgomery but ended up falling 9-7. The Warriors dropped the other two doubles matches 8-1, and 8-2.

In singles, the Senators swiftly gained the two points they needed for the win by claiming both the No. 1 and No. 2 match. The remaining unfinished matches all favored Auburn Montgomery with the exception of position five which had LCSC’s Cesar Uauy ahead by one set and leading 1-0 in the second set.

The Warrior women had just one senior on this year’s roster in Megan Smedley, while the men had two seniors, Tobias Campbell and Arslan Mermut.
