Despite losing a couple of tough three-set matches in the top two singles positions, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s tennis team picked up its first win on the young season by defeating Whitworth 6-3 at the LCSC Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Warriors, 1-4 on the season, won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches against the NCAA Division III Pirates.
Dorothy Chong, played in the No. 3 spot, picked up a big win by defeating Alli Marshall 7-5, 3-6, 7-6. LCSC’s Barb Sneckner, Samantha Teigen, and Chelsea Gay all rolled to straight set wins.
Teigen, Sneckner, and Gay also were part of the doubles’ wins for the Warriors as Whitworth fell to 0-2.
LCSC is back in action on Sunday as the women take on College of Idaho at 9 a.m., while the men play host to Whitman College at 1 p.m. Both matches are at the LCSC Activity Center.
