LCSC tennis teams remain ranked
4/5/2011

The Lewis-Clark State College men’s and women’s tennis teams held steady in this week’s NAIA Tennis Coaches Top 25 polls. The men’s team stayed at No. 15 and the women remained at No. 19, the NAIA announced on Tuesday.

On the men’s side, the Warriors, 8-7 overall, drew 136 points and trail No. 14 Aquinas College of Michigan by just three points. For the 12th straight week Fresno Pacific is the No. 1 team as it received all 10 first-place votes.

The Warrior women are 5-11 overall, but all losses have been to either NCAA schools or California schools ranked in the NAIA Top 10.  LCSC drew 102 points in the poll and trail No. 18 Saint Thomas of Florida by nine points.

Fresno Pacific remains the No. 1 team for the fifth week in a row, followed by Embry-Riddle.

The Warrior men don’t resume play until April 16 against Portland State at 10 a.m. in Lewiston.

Both Warrior teams then head to Oklahoma City for the NAIA National Qualifying Tournament on April 19-20. The tourney will involve LCSC, College of Idaho, Central Christian of Kansas, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Oklahoma Baptist, Southern Nazarene of Oklahoma, John Brown of Arkansas, LSU Shreveport, Our Lady of the Lake of Texas, and Southwest of New Mexico. Only the winner of each tournament will receive an automatic berth to nationals.

Currently on the men’s side, Oklahoma Christian is No. 5 in the poll and is the only other team ranked besides LCSC from the group. On the women’s side, Oklahoma Christian is No. 5, Southern Nazarene is No. 12, and Oklahoma Baptist is No. 15.
