LCSC men are now No. 18; women are No. 21
4/19/2011

The Lewis-Clark State College men’s tennis team won its only match last week, which came against an NCAA Division I program, but that didn’t stop the Warriors from slipping three spots in the latest NAIA Tennis Coaches Top 25 poll, which was released on Tuesday.

The LCSC men defeated Portland State 5-2 last Saturday in their only match, but despite the win, the Warriors went from No. 15 last week to No. 18 this week.

The Warriors received 122 points in the poll, trailing No. 17 Lindsey Wilson by nine points. Lindsey Wilson went from being unranked to its current position this week.

On the women’s side, the Warriors are ranked No. 21 overall with 117 points. LCSC dropped two spots from last week despite being idle. Campbellsville of Kentucky is No. 20 with 121 points.

The drop in the polls is concerning for LCSC because of the new national qualifier is must go through this season. Both Warrior teams are currently in Oklahoma taking part in the NAIA National Qualifying Tournament. Only the overall team winners earn automatic berths to the national tournaments next month while the remaining teams will have to rely on at-large berths, which are determined by the poll rankings.
