WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Lewis-Clark State College men’s tennis team pulled out a narrow 5-4 win against Whitman College on Friday afternoon to open the Whitman College Shootout in the Bratton Tennis Center.
LCSC, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, is now 4-1 on the season, while Whitman, ranked No. 29 nationally in NCAA Division III, is 0-2.
The Warriors grabbed an early 2-1 lead in the opening round of doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, LCSC sophomores Anders Tischer and Sam Tozer fought to a 9-8 (7-5) decision, and senior Benjamin Robert and junior Lincoln Gay posted an 8-6 victory at No. 3.
LCSC then clinched the team victory by winning three of the first four decisions in singles. With the Warriors ahead 5-2, Whitman won the final two matches in singles to complete the scoring.
Ivan Krijanto took the No. 1 singles match 7-6 (7-3), 6-2; Sam Tozer won at No. 3 by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-4; and Cesar Uauy took the No. 4 match 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
