LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Lewis-Clark State College tennis teams, each ranked in the top 12 nationally, returned to action in Southern California on Thursday with a pair of victories over Arizona Christian.
The No. 10 Warrior women (6-7) blanked the Firestorm 9-0 and the No. 12 LCSC men’s squad (6-3) defeated the first-year ACU program 8-1 at Biola University.
The women’s team is now 3-0 on its weeklong spring break trip, while the men improve to 1-2 on the swing.
LCSC coach Kai Fong tweaked the lineup a bit for the women’s match, giving top singles players Dorothy Chong and Bryn Oliveira a rest against Arizona Christian. The move allowed Netti Dayhuff and Kaytlin Nelson to see court time, and both responded with straight-set victories.
All three doubles teams picked up 8-0 wins for the Warriors, and only Deanri Human at No. 3 singles needed three sets to defeat her opponent.
On the men’s side, the Warriors swept the six singles matches as Alberto Sanz’ straight-set victory at the No. 5 slot clinched the team triumph.
Anders Tischer had a battle with Arizona Christian’s Andrew Barnett at No. 1 singles, and had to rally from a 2-6 defeat after winning the opening set by the same score. Tischer came through with a 10-5 win in the third and final set to take the match.
The Warriors travel to Irvine, Calif. on Friday to take on Concordia, with both matches scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Concordia’s women are ranked ninth and the men 10th, so the competition should be fierce for LCSC.
