Lewis-Clark State College’s Livia Blasque has been named the NAIA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday.
Blasque, a sophomore from Andradina, Brazil, claims the national award after helping the No. 10 Warriors go 5-0 on their annual trip to California last week. During the trip, LCSC defeated three ranked teams including No. 7 Westmont (7-2), No. 9 Concordia (5-4), and No. 11 Vanguard (6-3).
“She’s certainly been a very consistent performer,” said LCSC head coach Kai Fong, now in his 25th season at the helm. “She’s been a good addition to the program. She just enjoys the game, and she’s fun to watch because she’s a fierce competitor.”
Blasque, who is in her first year with the Warriors, went 5-0 at singles, playing at No. 2 three times and No. 1 twice, and 4-1 at No. 1 doubles. Her singles victories included two wins over nationally ranked players.
Lewis-Clark State, which is 8-7 overall, prepares to host a pair of NCAA Division I teams at the LCSC Tennis Center this weekend. The Warriors will face Texas State University at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the University of Texas-San Antonio at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
