SPOKANE - Two more members of the Lewis-Clark State College women's track team qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Meet next month with strong showings at the Duane Harman Invitational on Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College.
Kyli Astle qualified for nationals in the steeplechase and Kirsten Smith qualified in the women's discus to bring the total of LCSC women qualifiers for nationals to four.
Astle was third in the steeplechase in 11 minutes 39.48 seconds. Teammate Lindsay Szybura, who already has qualified for nationals in the event, won the race in 11:47.22, her fastest mark of the season.
Smith finished third in the discus at 137-feet, 10 inches, which set a school record. Kelsey Klettke also set a school record in the 800 by placing fifth overall in 2:22.10.
Other highlights for the Warrior women included Casey Hampton's third place finish in the 5,000 meters in a personal best time of 19:57.74. Ali Super, who also has qualified for nationals, was third in the javelin at 147-11.
On the men's side, LCSC went 1-2 in the 5,000 meters as Sean Huey captured first place in 15:43.51, while Eric Tuwei was second in 15:50.95. Nathan Uhlorn was fifth in the discus at 45-3.
Teams from through the Pacific Northwest and Montana competed in the meet.
