MOSCOW, Idaho – Ali Super’s first-place javelin toss topped the finishes of the Lewis-Clark State College track and field team at the 2009 Vandal Jamboree on Saturday. Also for the Warriors, Lindsay Szybura turned in a strong first-place finish in the steeplechase as did Sean Huey with a second-place time in the 5,000.
Super, as has been the case all season long, bested multiple NCAA opponents with her throw of 153-00 (46.63m). She was followed by teammate Nicole Hardisty who reached 116-09 (35.60m) to earn fifth.
Szybura won the steeplechase with a time of 11:33.10.
Also on the women’s side, Casey Hampton claimed second in the 5,000 with a time of 21:08.32, Kirsten Smith was sixth in the discus with a throw of 125-03 (38.19m), and Kelsey Klettke had a time of 2:22.02 which was good enough for third in the 800.
In the 5,000, Huey finished less than three seconds behind Gonzaga’s Andrew Walker with a time of 15:26.08. The third-place runner came in at 16:05.75.
In the 800, Jon Dalton took fourth in 2:00.91, and Jake Miller finished fourth and Scott Sweet sixth in the 1,500. Miller’s time was 4:23.91 while Sweet’s was 4:29.97.
Saturday represented the Warriors’ final meet of the regular season. The NAIA outdoor national championships will be held in St. Louis, Mo. on May 21-23.
After having only one athlete qualify for the national championships last year (Szybura in the steeplechase), LCSC will send four athletes to nationals this year: Super (javelin), Smith (discus), Szybura (steeplechase), and Kyli Astle (steeplechase).
