EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Lewis-Clark State College freshman Kirsten Smith had a solid showing at the NAIA Women’s National Outdoor Track and Field meet as she placed 10th in the discus on Friday.
Smith entered the competition as the No. 21 rated qualifier in the field of 24, but set a season best in the event with a throw of 139-feet, 11-inches. That was the second best throw in the first flight and the fourth best throw among the first two flights.
The third flight, however, contained many of the top throwers and six of the eight competitors in the flight were able to top 140 feet, including winner Annie Hess of Concordia (Ore.), who threw 176-07.
It was another strong showing for the Warrior women, who sent four competitors to the meet. On Thursday, freshman Ali Super finished second in the javelin, while juniors Lindsay Szybura and Kyli Astle ran well in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Smith is from Everett, Wash.
