MOSCOW, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State College men’s distance medley team posted a NAIA national qualifying time at the Idaho Vandal Collegiate this weekend. LCSC also saw more school records set.
“This is our first relay team to qualify for nationals, and we’re real excited about that,” said LCSC head coach Mike Collins.
The medley team; composed of Grant Eldridge, Tanner Smedley, Josh Shrewsbury, and Fernando Esparanza; completed the course in a program record time of 10:28.68 which was good enough for second overall. The NAIA indoor nationals will be held on March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
In the 4x400 relay, Esparanza, Shrewsbury, Smedley, and Mickael Testa hit another program best as they finished the course in 3:36.06.
In other running events, Kyli Astle finished fourth and set a school mark in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:57.06. Lindsay Szybura finished directly behind her in fifth with a time of 11:03.68.
Chelsey Leighton missed a national qualify time by about two second in the 200 as she finished that race in 28.12. She also completed the 400 in 1:02.79.
In the one mile, Shaelie Edwards finished in a time of 5:48.45, while Smedley had a time of 4:37.26 on the men’s side.
In throwing events, Nathan Uhlorn was 10th in the shot put with a personal record of 48-09.50. Jake Meyer’s distance of 40-06.25 was good enough for 12th in the weight throw.
Kirsten Smith claimed seventh overall with a throw of 37-09.50 in the shot put. Myriah Deeds earned 13th with a toss of 32-02.25.
