SPOKANE – Dave Marks and Kyli Astle became the most recent members of the Lewis-Clark State College track and field squads to qualify for the NAIA National Outdoor Meet as the Warriors competed at the Northwest Scoring Clash on Saturday.
Marks (photo), a freshman from Lake Oswego, Ore., qualified in the 5,000 meters with a program-record time of 14:52.67 which was good enough for second overall. Astle (photo), a senior from Shoshone, Idaho, earned her spot in the steeplechase with a fourth-place finishing time of 11:31.51.
Kelsey Klettke, who qualified for nationals in the 1,500 last week, set a program record and finished first overall in the 1,500 on Saturday. Klettke finished the race in 4:43.69 to defeat a number of northwest runners including athletes from NCAA D-I Washington State and Gonzaga.Marks and Astle join Klettke, Lindsay Szybura, and Kirsten Smith as the five Warriors to have qualified for nationals so far this season. LCSC has two more invites on the schedule during which its athletes will have an opportunity to put up qualifying marks. On May 1 the Warriors will attend the Duane Hartman Invite in Spokane, and then on May 8 they’ll compete at the Ken Shannon Invite in Seattle.
