John Murray, who just graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School, has signed a letter-of-intent to throw for the Lewis-Clark State College men’s track squad next year, LCSC throwing coach Arlen Olson has announced.
Murray won the Idaho State Class 5A discus title last month in Boise with a school-record throw of 175-feet. He placed 11th in the same event as a junior.
Murray also has qualified for the Junior National Track and Field Championships in the 12-pound hammer throw this summer at Eugene, Ore. Murray has a personal best of 191-08 in the hammer and is hoping to break the Idaho state record of 193-02 set by Orofino’s Kyle Annen in 2003.
“John is a great addition to the LCSC track and field program,” Olson said. “He was extremely well-coached in high school with good fundamentals and should make an easy transition to the next level. He has a tremendous head start with having learned the hammer throw in high school.”
