LCSC dominates all-Frontier Conference cross country teams

Men place seven on team, women six; Collins is coach of the Year

11-15-2007

The Lewis-Clark State College men’s and women’s cross country teams dominated the Frontier Conference season and the lone conference meet this year. The teams also dominated the all-conference awards, which were announced Thursday.

LCSC had 13 of the 20 runners honored on both teams and coach Mike Collins was selected as the Conference’s Coach of the Year. The LCSC men had seven of the 10 runners honored, while the women’s team had six runners.

This is the first year the cross country has been recognized as a conference sport.

Collins led the Warrior men and women to conference titles during the meet two weeks ago, which also served as the Region I meet. Both teams will take part in the national meet on Saturday in Kenosha, Wis. The Warrior women are making their seventh straight appearance to nationals and are ranked No. 21 in the NAIA. The men are making their second straight appearance and are ranked No. 14.

Selected to the men’s team from LCSC are seniors Calin Hantau and Aaron Galbraith, along with juniors Adrian Ramirez and Mickael Sopel. The remaining three are freshmen – Chris McConnell, Sean Huey, and Jake Miller.

Seniors Jenny Jensen, Emily Perkins, and Rikki Glick led the LCSC selections to the women’s team. They were joined by sophomore teammates Kyli Astle, Lindsay Szybura, and Katja Palm-Loevslett.

The honors were based on the top 10 finishers from each race at the conference meet. LCSC won the men’s meet with 18 points, while Carroll was second at 62. The women’s side wasn’t much closer as LCSC had 22 points, while Carroll was second at 63.
