LCSC signs
Yakima’s Shuel for women’s cross country
team
2-25-08
Stephanie Shuel, a senior at West Valley
High School in Yakima, Wash., has signed a
letter of intent to run for the Lewis-Clark
State College women’s cross country team,
Warrior coach Mike Collins announced on
Monday.
“We
are excited about adding her to our family,”
Collins says. “She has shown that she has a
strong running background and her race
resume is very good.”
Shuel
has personal bests of 59 seconds for 400
meters, 2:19 for 800, 4:59 for 1500, 11:47
for 3200, and 18:52 for a 5-kilometer cross
country race. She finished fourth in the
Washington State 3A Cross Country
Championship race her junior year, but was
hampered a little by injuries her senior
year.
Collins says Shuel is an excellent student
with a GPA over 3.50.
“We
think she is going to fit in very well
here,” Collins says. “She will be among a
large group of runners that are similar in
talent level, which will undoubtedly push
them all on a daily basis. In this
environment, she will be helping to make
those around her better and the same will be
returned. Stephanie is the sixth runner to
sign for the women’s team next year, which
might be considered one of the best
recruiting classes we have ever seen.”
