LCSC signs
second cross country runner from California
2-1-08
The
Lewis-Clark State college cross country team
signed its second women’s cross country
runner to a letter-of-intent this week to
run for the Warriors next fall with Kirsten
White of Salinas High School in California,
LCSC cross country coach Mike Collins
announced on Friday.
“Kirsten is going to be able to step right
into our lineup and help to make the team
better right away,” Collins said. “She was
able to spend a good amount of time while on
her visit in Lewiston with the girls on the
team and I think they would agree that she
is all about running. She is motivated to
get even better. She was a huge part of the
reason her high school team qualified for
the first time in their school’s history for
the California state championships. She has
garnered all-league in cross country and was
her team captain this past season.”
Collins says White has posted several good
cross country times, which are consistently
in the low 19-minute mark. Her track bests
heading into her senior year include 2:22 in
the 800, 5:23 in the 1,600, and 11:42 in the
3,200.
White
also excels in the classroom with a GPA of
more than 3.90.
“I
think it is a credit to our program and the
community to see runners interested on
committing to our program from as far away
as they are,” Collins says. “This is our
second runner this week from California to
commit to the team. I think it shows that
the reputation of the program is continuing
to expand and runners from all over want to
be a part of something special. “
The
Warriors finished 19th at the national meet
last season and lost three seniors from that
squad.
