LCSC Cross Country teams finish second and third

SALEM, Ore. – Paced by freshman Stephanie Shuel (left), who finished 23rd, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s cross country team finished second at the 34th annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush’s Pasture Park.

Shuel finished with a time of 18:44.73 in the women’s 5-kilometer race, and she was followed closely by teammate Kyli Astle who finished 29th with a time of 18:48.64. Willamette’s Maddie Coffman claimed the individual title with a time of 17:37.53.

The Warrior women, bested only by NCAA division II Chico State, outran a host of NCAA schools as well as NAIA rivals University of British Columbia, College of Idaho, and Concordia (Ore.).

The LCSC men, also ran well, as they finished third out of 30 teams. Currently ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, the Warriors defeated such teams as Concordia (Ore.), currently ranked No. 9; College of Idaho, currently No. 24; and British Columbia which is currently No. 25. Chico State claimed the team title, and Southern Oregon, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, took second.

Eric Tuwei (left) led the way for the Warriors as he finished 13th in the 8K race with a time of 25:20.58. Adrian Ramirez finished 16th overall and second for the Warriors with a time of 25:27.24. Chico State’s Scott Bauhs won the race with a time of 24:06.32.
