Lewis-Clark State College cross country and track coach Mike Collins has announced that Shaelie Edwards, a senior at Pleasant Grove High School in Pleasant Grove, Utah, has signed a letter of intent to run for the Warriors this fall.
“We are excited about having Shaelie on the team,” Collins said. “She comes to us with one of the highest voices of confidence behind her in that her coach from last season, John Kernan, highly recommended her. Coach Kernan is now coaching at a different high school, but his name is well known in the NAIA and throughout the country. He was the NAIA indoor track coach of the year in 1992 and the NCAA cross country coach of the year in 1994, both while at Adams State. With over 35 years of experience coaching, when coach Kernan recommends someone, we listen.
“Shaelie comes to us with a good high school running resume, yet she has only been running two years. This past year she finished seventh at the Utah High School All-Star Race, a cross country race that combines the best senior runners from the two largest school classifications in the state.”
Edwards joins a young Warrior team that has won the Frontier Conference title both years the championships have been held.
