LCSC men climb to No. 14 in NAIA
9/30/2009

Fresh off winning the title at the Erik Anderson Invitational last weekend in Spokane, the Lewis-Clark State College men’s cross country team moved up two spots in this week’s NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll to No. 14, the organization announced Wednesday.

The Warriors rolled to the title last Saturday and defeated NCAA Division I foe Gonzaga in the process. That showing helped LCSC claim the biggest jump among the top 15 teams in the poll as the Warriors drew 323 votes for the 14th spot. Cedarville of Ohio is at No. 13 with 345 points.

The Warrior women’s cross country team, which finished fifth in the same meet, traded spots with Concordia University of Nebraska, which was the only change among the top 17 women’s teams from a week ago. The Warriors fell two spots to No. 11, while Concordia is now at No. 9. LCSC drew 478 points in the poll, while Indiana Wesleyan remained at No. 10 with 492 points.

Schools from the West are well represented in both polls.   Azusa Pacific drew 23 of the 25 first-place votes in the women’s poll to hold down the top spot. Cal Stat-San Marco is second, Simon Fraser is third, Biola of California is fourth, College of Idaho is sixth, Concordia of California is eighth, and LCSC is 11th.

On the men’s side, Malone University of Ohio holds the top spot, while British Columbia is fifth, Southern Oregon is sixth, Cal State-San Marcos is eighth, Simon Fraser is 12th and LCSC is No. 14.

Fellow Frontier Conference member Great Falls received four points in the men’s poll.

Both Warriors teams will be in Salem, Ore., on Saturday for Willamette University’s 35th annual Charles Bowles Invitational, one of the largest meets in the Pacific Northwest.
