Warrior men remain at No. 10 in poll
10/21/2009

The Lewis-Clark State College men’s cross country team remained at No. 10 in the NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, which was released Wednesday, but the Warrior women fell a surprising five spots to No. 16.

The sixth poll of the season saw the top 10 spots in the men’s poll remain unchanged. The Warriors men garnered 449 points and trail No. 9 Olivet Nazarene by 17 points. Malone University of Ohio drew 19 of the 22 first-place votes to hold down the top spot.

On the women’s side, the top five spots remained unchanged from a week ago, while College of Idaho moved back into the Top 10 at No. 6. The Warrior women suffered the biggest drop in the poll, falling to No. 16 from No. 11. LCSC had 353 points in the poll, seven behind No. 15 Point Loma Nazarene.

The Warrior men defeated a handful of NCAA schools in capturing the title at the Inland Northwest Cross Country Challenge at the University of Idaho last Saturday, while the women’s team was fourth behind a pair of NCAA schools and a Canadian program. The Warrior women also were without a couple of their top runners in the meet.

This Saturday, the Warriors play host to their only home meet of the season, the Warrior Invite, at Lewiston’s Hells Gate State Park. The women’s race begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men at 11:15 a.m.  Teams participating in the event are Carroll, Flathead Valley Community College, Rocky Mountain, Spokane Falls Community College, Great Falls, Westminster and a couple of runners from Washington State University.
